British Values & our value for the month

To further support our School Values and our promotion of 'British Values',  we think about and celebrate one of our 22 values each month, often linking them with different events and festivals, both locally and around the world.

We look at the value in assembly and in class and we aim to ‘live’ that value in the way we work with others in school.

In July 2024 our value is... Courage

Learning about Courage

In school, we have explained to the children that courage is not about having no fear but is about persevering when we meet obstacles in life and trying to face those problems, asking for help if we need it, so that we can be brave and do our best.

We are asking parents/carers at home to send in a note if they think their child has demonstrated courage or bravery, describing how they showed this value.  We will celebrate some of their achievements in assembly (if they are happy with this).  Examples of courage might be:

  • Being brave to face challenges and setbacks in life

  • Facing fears such as going to a new club where they don’t know anyone and need to make new friends.

  • Encouraging others and helping them to face their own challenges.

What people have said about courage:

Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen - Winston Churchill

I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear - Nelson Mandela

He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life - Muhammad Ali

It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends - J. K. Rowling

Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see the shadow. Helen Keller.
