Year 1 'The Great Fire of London'
Year 1 children have been learning about The Great Fire of London and as a 'fantastic finish' we decided to make our own Tudor houses out of shoe boxes.
The children spent an afternoon decorating the boxes, creating their own version of the crowded streets of London in the 17th Century. The following day we set up our London skyline on the playground, and with the assistance and watchful eye of our Site Manager, we set fire to one of the boxes. The children sat around the edge of the playground and watched as the flames passed from one building to the next.
The children were astounded how quickly the fire spread, they witnessed a vivid and thought-provoking representation of the destruction caused by The Great Fire in 1666.
